Doors, cylinders and horsepower

The Alfa 147 was available with a 3-door of 5-door body. As for the engines there was a choice between 1.6 or 2.0 4-cylinder petrol, a 1.9 4-cylinder diesel, and a 3.2 liter V6 engine (the famous Busso) in the GTA model.

The British tuner Autodelta (not to be confused with Alfa Romeo's former race department, led by Carlo Chiti) gave the 147's performance a boost from 250 to 328 hp, by enlarging to capacity to 3.7 liter. Later on a 400 hp version followed, with the aid of a Rotrex compressor.
